Does waxing make your hair grow thinner or stronger? Or neither and it is all a myth?

is there a difference between facial and body hair on the matter?

I wax my eyebrows and my lower legs.

I have found that on my legs over the years...and it has taken years...that my hair grows back softer, and some hair just

doesn't grow back. I only get this done every three months now. I used to get them done every 4-6 weeks.

My eyebrows seem to grow like crazy, there is no difference in growth rate, I still get them done every 4-6 weeks just like when I started getting them done

When you wax it damages the follicle or may even remove the follicle.. the more you wax..

In the long run, the hair is less likely to grow back....

Waxing frequently can make your hair a lot less coarse and it won't grow back as fast the more you do it. I don't wax my face but I used to wax my eyebrows and it grew back slowly. I wax other body hair every 6 weeks and it gets thinner and thinner everytime.

waxing will definitely cause the hair to grow back thinner. AND if you wax for a while, like years, the hair eventually doesnt grow back at all! i use wax on my legs and face. just be aware that waxing can sometimes cause ingrown hairs which can be a pain..

Complete myth. Shaving, waxing, or plucking will not make hair grow back thinner, thicker, stronger, darker, lighter, or anything of that nature. The different methods are simply for how long you want to prevent your hair from going back, and how painful you want the procedure to be (:

It's a myth - it all depends on the person and the more you shave/wax doesn't make a difference either.

when you shave alot hair grows way thicker

waxing makes the hair come back as normal in my experience. Shaving makes your hair come back thicker and coarser so waxing can only be the same or better so try it and see how you get on. waxing keeps the hair away for longer as you are getting rid of the hair from the root apposed to just shaving off the surface.

The hair waxing action does cause the skin to sting and many find a soothing skin healing cream to be helpful afterwards. Some persons find the skin reacts with redness and bumps which disappear after a few hours. Some physicians do not recommend hair waxing for persons suffering from diabetes or who have varicose veins or poor circulation as they are more susceptible to infection.

Users of Retin-A, Renova, Differin or Accutane are advised not to use hair waxing on the face as these medications tend to weaken the skin and tearing of the skin may occur when the wax is removed.

Hair waxing should not be done on areas of skin affected by warts, pimples, moles or rashes or on skin that is irritated, chapped or suffering from sunburn. Never apply wax to peeling, broken skin or varicose veins. Never apply wax to the nipples when removing hair from the breast area.

On what body areas wax be used?

It is wise to test a small area first but generally waxing can be used on most parts of the body. The exceptions are the male genitals, nipples, inside the ears and nose, eyelashes.

How long before hair reappears?

Generally between 3 and 8 weeks. Less hair regrows and it is generally finer. Eventually some hair never regrows.

How can the pain or discomfort be minimized?

A simple way to greatly minimize the discomfort is to press hard on the skin right after the waxing strip is pulled off. To emphasize again, do this IMMEDIATELY after the strip is pulled off. Press down hard with the cushion of the finger or the palm of the hand on larger areas.

Additionally, rubbing an ice cube over the area can do much to reduce the risk of swelling and skin irritation.

In conclusion: Depending on your level of skin sensitivity or pain toleration, texture of hair and rate of hair growth, waxing hair removal may be a viable option for you. it makes the hair thinner.

but my beauty therapy teacher told us that if you wax a place where there is no hair, it encourages the hair to grow there!
