I kind of am curious. Like when women shave their legs and men trim their facial hair, the hair gets thicker and somewhat needle-like.

I don't want my p u b e s to feel like porcupine quills.

Obviously, I'm not going to shave the area completely, just trim, but I'm still hesitant

Trimming shouldn't result in tougher hair. The hair will only become thicker if you shave the area which you say you wont. Trimming shouldn't have any effect on the thickness of you pubic hair

Yup. Trimming it on any kind of regular basis will make the hairs grow in thicker, coarser, and more spiky.

genetics are genetics. scissors won't change that. the pubic hair is coarse. When it originally grows in, it's not as coarse as it will be later on... and forever after. So, shaving it in the early stages will produce coarser hair, but only because it would become coarse later, anyway. You'll never grow "quills" due to shaving.

Trimming wont make the change, only if you shave to the skin will it grow thicker. If you wax hair depending on your genetics it may get finer or thicker or follicles may actually die resulting in loss of some hair.
